What does it take to make land safe again after war and conflict?
Step into a unique and powerful space that brings together innovation, courage, and international cooperation.
Hosted at the EU Pavilion, this interactive exhibition highlights the inspiring work of the heroes of mine action: the people, animals, and machines working every day to clear land, save lives, and help communities rebuild.
From cutting-edge technology to courageous deminers and a life-saving mine detection dog, the exhibition tells the stories behind humanitarian mine action - with a special focus on Ukraine and the global partnerships making this work possible.
Why visit? You will experience:
- A powerful VR experience (Home After War by GICHD[1]): Step into the shoes of a family returning to their home after conflict, and feel the emotional reality of living among hidden explosive threats.
- Photo exhibition "The Female Lens" (by MAG[2]): Discover the stories of women in mine action - as survivors, professionals, and agents of change.
- Live demining demonstrations: Watch real deminers in full gear working on a mock minefield – and try for yourself! A hands-on digging activity allows visitors - especially children - to experience what it is like to uncover hidden objects safely, using real demining tools.
- A mine detection dog: Meet one of the trained dogs from APOPO, who will showcase obedience training tricks - a highlight for children and adults alike.
- Explore the tech of tomorrow: See models of demining machines used in real operations.
- A film wall and slideshow: Learn about the EU’s and Japan’s joint efforts in Ukraine and beyond - featuring original footage from Japan, Team Europe partners and Ukraine.
- Quizzes for all ages: Test your knowledge and win a special prize.
- Family-friendly moments: Take a picture at our themed photo panel and explore the exhibition at your own pace with your children.
