Description
Cancer affects millions of lives globally. At this special event, we highlight how the EU and Japan are addressing the challenge with science, innovation, and international cooperation.
The EU’s Cancer Mission, launched in 2021 under Horizon Europe, aims to improve the lives of over 3 million people by 2030—through prevention, treatment, and better quality of life for patients and their families. It represents a new, holistic approach that connects research, public health, digital innovation, and policy.
The session will:
- Present the Cancer Mission’s strategy and current projects
- Highlight its work with young cancer survivors to co-design better solutions
- Explore the potential for cooperation with Japan, which is implementing its own comprehensive 10-year cancer control strategy
With the presence of experts and representatives from both the EU and Japan’s National Cancer Centre, the event also contributes to deepening collaboration ahead of Japan’s potential association with Horizon Europe.
