Description
Visitors to the EU Pavilion will have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge European research in disaster response through the demonstration of SMURF (Soft Miniaturised Underground Robotic Finder), part of the EU-funded CURSOR project.
Developed to assist in urban search and rescue operations, the SMURF robot is capable of navigating through rubble to locate victims in collapsed structures. During the live demonstrations, visitors will:
- Observe SMURF in action in a simulated rubble environment
- Test the navigation system and experience real-time data monitoring
- Learn about other tools developed by the CURSOR project, including drone fleets, geophones, and a data management platform
The exhibition also highlights the crucial role of collaboration between researchers and end-users, such as first responders, in delivering practical and impactful solutions for disaster risk reduction.
This demonstration underscores the EU’s investment in research and innovation that responds to global challenges and improves crisis preparedness.
